How to read it

The tree follows the medieval texts, and they do not always agree. Snorri makes Týr a son of Odin; in Hymiskviða Týr calls the giant Hymir his father. Both lines are drawn, each with its source. Snorri also makes Jörð, Thor's mother, both Odin's wife and his daughter; the tree shows the marriage. Generations are approximate: myths do not keep birth records, and a giant who appears only as someone's father is placed just above his child.

Wikidata is a useful cross-check, but some of its statements come from later sources (Saxo Grammaticus, modern retellings) or are plain mistakes. The methodology page lists every disagreement between the two.
