Móði

A son of Thor, named only alongside his brother Magni: the two survive Ragnarök and inherit their father's hammer Mjöllnir.

Móði is a son of Thor, and the sources never mention him except together with his brother Magni. Snorri's kennings call Thor "Father of Magni and Módi and Thrúdr" Skáldskaparmál 4, and in Hymiskviða Thor is "the father of Mothi" as he heaves the giant's kettle onto his head Hymiskviða 35.

His one role lies in the future. When the giant Vafþrúðnir tells Odin who will rule after Ragnarök, he names Víðarr and Váli, and adds: "Mothi and Magni shall Mjollnir have when Vingnir falls in fight" Vafþrúðnismál 51. Snorri repeats the prophecy: Thor's sons will come to the renewed world and bring Mjöllnir with them Gylfaginning 53.

The Eddas do not name his mother. Magni's mother was the giantess Járnsaxa Skáldskaparmál 17, but nothing says Móði shared her. His name means "wrath" or "courage", and with Magni, "might", the pair can be read as the qualities of Thor that outlast him. No story about Móði himself survives.
