Þrymheimr

The mountain home of the giant Þjazi, and later of his daughter Skaði, who returned there to ski and hunt after leaving Njörðr.

Þrymheimr is a giant's hall that ended up on the gods' list. Grímnismál counts it sixth among the divine dwellings: it was the home of Þjazi, "The giant of marvelous might", and "Now Skathi abides, the god's fair bride, In the home that her father had" Grímnismál 11. Snorri says it lies "on certain mountains" Gylfaginning 23. Þjazi carried Iðunn there after stealing her from Asgard Skáldskaparmál 1. After his death his daughter Skaði married Njörðr, and they agreed to live nine nights at Þrymheimr and nine at Nóatún. Njörðr hated it: "To me the wailing of wolves seemed ill, After the song of swans" Gylfaginning 23. Skaði went back for good and hunts there on snowshoes with her bow Gylfaginning 23. Despite the similar name, no source connects the place with the giant Thrym of Þrymskviða.
