Vör

A wise and searching goddess from whom nothing can be hidden; she is known only from one sentence in Snorri's list of the Ásynjur.

Vör is the tenth goddess in Snorri's list of the Ásynjur. She is "wise and of searching spirit, so that none can conceal anything from her", and Snorri cites a saying that a woman becomes "aware" (vör) of whatever she learns Gylfaginning 35. Brodeur's translation keeps the play on words with the English "ware".

That is the whole of the evidence. Vör has no story, no family and no part in the Eddic poems, and she is easily confused with Vár, who comes just before her in the list. Bellows's spelling "Vor" in Þrymskviða belongs to Vár, not to Vör.

Like Snotra ("wise") and Syn ("denial"), Vör looks like a quality given a name and a place among the goddesses. Whether she was ever more than that cannot be known from what survives.
